Coastal Explorer

Saturday 6 January - Tuesday 9 January 2007

Enjoy a food, wine and craft experience while you explore the beautiful south coast of New South Wales, with pick up from Sydney airport at approximately 1pm on Saturday 6 January. We will then travel by bus to historic Berrima, through Kangaroo Valley to Shoalhaven. The next three days will be spent exploring the coastal towns of southern NSW hinterland places like Berry, the National Trust classified village of Tilba, Bega and some local wineries. These places are renowned for their cafes, museums, art and craft shops, galleries and antiques stores. Wine and cheese tasting will blend with this experience. Enjoy spectacular scenery and coastline. The cost includes good accommodation, breakfast and dinner, with a special afternoon tea and entrance to attractions. Return to Sydney late Tuesday afternoon via the fantastic Grand Pacific Drive from Wollongong to the Grace Hotel in Sydney.

Costume Department of Opera Australia - Full

The Costume Department of Opera Australia is housed in a three-storey warehouse in 148 Elizabeth Street, Surry Hills. The Opera Centre houses many different departments and artisans whose work is on display for you to view first hand including: costume manufacture and storage; a millinery department; a jeweler and cobbler; several wig makers; props manufacture; set design, building and painting; rehearsal spaces (often with working rehearsals under way); corridors filled with arias and scales drifting from the many coaching rooms; and offices for the administractive staff. The tour shows the planning, designing and making of the sets, props and costumes of Operas on the calendar for the next 18 months. It also houses Joan Sutherland's costumes. Participants will meet in the foyer of The Grace Hotel at 1.15pm on Tuesday 9 January and will be transported to Surry Hills for the 2pm tour. The tour will conclude with afternoon tea at 3.30pm. Participants will be returned to The Grace Hotel by 5pm.
